Georgina Briand
1920-2015
She had resided in Saint John for more than 60 years, many of them on Champlain Drive in Champlain Heights, before the death of her husband in 2000. More recently, she had resided at Coulton’s Special Care Home and Mystery Lake Manor.
She was a member of St. Joachim’s Parish and the Catholic Women’s League. She was an accomplished seamstress. Also, for many years, she knitted dozens of pairs of mittens for the church’s annual Christmas bazaar. She loved playing cards and was a golfer.
Her twin daughters were born May 3, 1943. Frances died two days later and Catherine Marie died in August of that year. Her third daughter, Mary Lois, was born in July of 1944 and died in September of 1947. Georgina’s six sisters – Jessie, Effie, Mary, Agnes, Ellen and Rebecca – as well as her four brothers – George, Frank, William and Pius – all died earlier, as did a half-brother, Robert. She is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.
